Good early reprint of the famous and, at the time, somewhat controversial look at the early days of jazz, jazz musicians, and the big band era. No publication date give other than 1939, the year of first publication. Probably 1945. Wear to spine ends and extremities. Age toning to spine. Front end paper has been torn out. Pages clean and unmarked. Binding still square and tight. Jacket fair with overall wear and some areas of loss. Book inscribed on the inside front and back covers and rear end paper, by an interesting variety of celebrities: boxer Max Baer, singer Herb Jeffries, singer Dolores Hawkins, as well as someone with an indecipherable signature and the mysterious Ponce. The inscriptions are all to "Jacquie", quite probably singer Jacqueline Fontaine, who co-starred with Baer in the 1951 film "Skipalong Rosenbloom". Not quite lovely but still intriguing copy of an important book. 13696
